Snapping kids can be a real  -adventure! They’re fast, they’re squirmy, they’re busy, sometimes they’re cranky, but guess what? Fairly, all of that stuff is a total piece of cake. The real challenge? The real challenge comes when they start demanding, but you need to catch the right thing and put it to in front of them, after that they will allow you to do photographing.

Some points to keep in mind…

This point is probably more important than all the others combined. You have got to keep mom and dad under control. Often parents are tempted to engage to try to help get their kiddos to cooperate. This is particularly likely if the kids are being somewhat rascally. Or you can go to the Baby Photoshoot Studio, and click some common but amazing clicks.

Instead of trying to contain children to a specific backdrop, allow them to explore. They’ll be a thousand times more cooperative when you do try to get them to do something specific if you haven’t spent the entire shoot calling to them “stand-up, sit-down” or “look at me” and “look over there,” and fight, fight, fight.” Remember, your subject doesn’t have to be looking straight at the camera (or even facing the camera)to click the best picture just tell a powerfully authentic story to them so that they find fun in photography.

It’s not easy for everyone to connect with little people, and if you can’t authentically connect, how can you hope to capture an authentic image? 512portraintcomay professionals have a clear advantage after having experience . . . day in and day out . . . 24 hours a day. . . 7 days a week. No, we are not complaining . . . just counting. That’s what moms do. We love to click creative clicks.

The greatest thing you can do to create beautiful art with a child is simply relaxed and allow them to be themselves. Either you are clicking the clicks in Affordable Photo Studio or outside somewhere, kids are observant and attentive. They intellect when you’re overdoing it and aren’t acting like yourself, and they’ll respond in kind.

Also, bear in mind, kids love being treated with respect (just like every single adult I know). If you treat them respectfully, and let them breathe deep, and saying act like yourself and have fun, you’ll be a big success. Guaranteed.

Everyone does things differently. We will be the first to jump up and down and throw our hands in the air to celebrate that truth! The most dangerous thing we can do as educators is to impose limitations on creativity. And the most important thing we can do as artists fight against those limitations—self-inflicted or otherwise—and find our authentic artistic voice (more on that in a future post). Take what you have learned here and modify it in a way that fits within the realm of YOUR unique style and passion as a photographer, or if it’s not a fit, throw it out altogether. Remember these words, “perfectly imperfect?” actually, they apply not just to our subjects, but us as artists as well. There’s not a right way or a wrong way to approach our art. The right way is simply whichever way we choose.
